I remember sitting in class at Cal Poly and I got a text from a friend saying that they could get me a press pass to shoot the Common / Cool Kids show at UCI that was set to happen later that month. That person also probably didn’t realize I had close to zero experience shooting with a DSLR camera, let alone to cover a concert but I was stupid enough to say of course. I then immediately pulled out a loan from the financial aid office and fast forward to the night of the show, went to Samy’s Camera and bought a 7D a few hours before the concert. I had half-charged batteries in there and pretty much train wrecked the gig while standing in the press-pit by a bunch of photographers who had been shooting for who knows how long. It’s a miracle I somehow managed to shoot anything at all. But fast forward since that night and I haven’t really stopped trying to learn photography. Long story short, you can finesse your way into anything if you want it bad enough.
Oh and the photo above is Lupe Fiasco, aka the 1 out of 12 decent shots out of 16 gigs of photo I shot that night, lol.
